Austin Hill of Anonymizer.com will discuss the Apache Web server, and the modules that can be added to Apache. Apache is popular as a web server, and Austin will discuss how to take advantage of the SSL module for electronic commerce, the MP3 module and other interesting modules that Anonymizer.com has implemented.

Austin Hill of Anonymizer will walk you through configuring your Apache Web Server to use in your business for secure transactions. Our Saturday Technical Seminar will help you install, configure and optimize your Apache Web Server. We will also help you in implementing additional modules for use with secure transactions or electronic commerce on the web.
(Saturday seminars are meant for you to bring your entire computer system, and to configure your system along with the instructor)

4/3/02 (1st Wed) 6:30pmLINUX BUSINESS SERIES - Linux Proxy Firewall
Kevin Partridge will discuss IP Chains and IP Tables and configuring your Linux Proxy Firewall Server. Kevin will also discuss web tools such as T.Rex, Dante and SINUS to configure your firewall.

4/20/02 (3rd Sat) 9am LINUX BUSINESS SERIES - Linux Proxy Firewall
Kevin Partridge will lead you in installing a Linux Proxy Firewall. If you will be using a Linux Proxy Firewall, and want to test your configuration, you will need to bring the computer for your firewall (with 2 NICs), plus your system being protected. Kevin will help you with your networking, firewall configuration, and confirm that your system is functioning, and protecting you.

5/1/02 (1st Wed) 6:30pm LINUX BUSINESS SERIES - Linux Security Tom Perrine of the San Diego Supercomputer Center ("SDSC"), will show you the techniques that the SDSC uses for securing its systems. We will teach you how to prevent entry, detect entry, and how to monitor your system to see the activity and logs.

5/18/02 (3rd Sat) 9am LINUX BUSINESS SERIES - Linux security
Securing Linux. Linux security and detection intrusion. Learn the tools to secure and detect intrusion on your system such as swatch, nmap, snort, and a broad range of other tools to make your system hardened.

LINUX INSTALLFEST at San Diego Technical Books
San Diego Technical Books (booksmatter.com) is joining with the SDLUG to host an Installfest.  SDLUG will have SuSE 8.0, Red Hat 7.3 and Mandrake 8.0.  SD Technical Books is a great location due to its close proximity to CompUSA, for hardware needs.

6/12/02 (Thurs.) 6:30pm-8pm LINUX BUSINESS SERIES - Beowulf Clusters,
Glen Otero, Ph.D. of Linux Prophet will cover Beowulf clustering concepts, the impact Beowulf clusters have had on the high performance computing community, Beowulf software evolution, how to build your own Beowulf cluster, and eventually culminate in his explanation of the Commodity Computing Commandments.

6/15/02 (3rd Sat) 9am LINUX BUSINESS SERIES - Beowulf Clusters
Glenís talk will be followed by a hands-on Beowulf cluster-building tutorial on June 15th.  Everyone is invited to bring a computer to be integrated into the cluster as a compute node.  Potential compute nodes need to have a 6 GB hard drive, x86-based CPU, 16 MB of RAM, either a floppy or CD-ROM drive, and an Ethernet NIC.  Itís important that the nodeís hardware is supported by Red Hat Linux, so please check out Red Hatís hardware compatibility list http://hardware.redhat.com/hcl/genpage2.cgi?pagename=hcl) to see if your computer hardware is supported.

08/07/02 (1st Wed) 6:30pm LINUX BUSINESS SERIES - ODBC
Peter Harvey will be joining the SDLUG in the month of August to discuss Databases including ODBC  for Linux and Unix operating systems.  His talk will cover the what's, where's and how's of Databases.

For the real security minded the SDLUG will be holding a SELinix Installation Day.  We will be walking through the installation of SELinux together.  Including definition of a policy.



09/04/02 (1st Wed) 6:30pm LINUX BUSINESS SERIES - Linux Personal Server.
Tim Lee-Thorp will be joining the SDLUG to talk about the latest in Linux Servers.
